I started doing hair over 20 years ago — behind a chair, one head at a time, learning what no school fully teaches: how to read a client's hair, her lifestyle, her environment, and give her exactly what she needs.
I've worked with every hair type, every texture, every stage of locs — from the nervous woman sitting down for her very first retwist to the client who's been loc'd for a decade and still doesn't know why her hair isn't thriving.
Now I'm based in Mérida, México — and I serve a community that rarely gets served well: Black women living internationally. Women who packed up their lives, their cultures, and their crowns and moved somewhere beautiful and unfamiliar.
I know the Mérida humidity. I know what the hard water does. I know what you can and can't find at the local beauty supply store. And I know how to make your hair work here.

Every appointment at Knotty Opulence is designed to give you more than a service. You leave with knowledge, a plan, and the confidence to manage your hair — wherever life takes you next.
20+ years of focused natural hair and locs experience. Not a generalist who does a little of everything — a specialist who does your specific thing exceptionally well.
Your hair is living in Mérida. The humidity, the hard water, the heat — it all affects your hair differently than what you're used to. Every service accounts for your actual environment.
Every new client receives a Custom Care Protocol — a personalized written roadmap for your hair between appointments. You don't just leave looking good. You leave knowing what to do next.
A limited, intentional client list means you get Nay's full attention, expertise, and energy. Not a number in a packed schedule — a client whose hair actually matters.
The goal isn't to make you dependent on a stylist. The goal is to make you the most knowledgeable steward of your own crown — whether you're in Mérida or on your next continent.
Nay lives the expat experience. She understands what it means to navigate life in a foreign country — and she built this studio specifically for women doing the same.
These policies exist to protect your experience and mine. Please read before booking — knowing the process makes everything smoother for both of us.
My booking platform is U.S.-based, which means you'll need a VPN set to a U.S. location to complete your booking from outside the United States. It takes about 2 minutes to set up and is completely free with most VPN apps (ProtonVPN and Windscribe both have free tiers that work great).
If you need help getting set up, message me directly — I'll walk you through it. Don't let this stop you from booking.
A deposit is required to secure all appointments.
$50 deposit for services under $200.
$100 deposit for services $200 and above.
Consultation fee ($85) is paid in full at booking and credited toward your service if booked within 30 days.
Deposits are non-refundable but transferable to a rescheduled appointment with proper notice.
Life happens — especially expat life. All I ask is that you give me as much notice as possible.
48+ hours notice: Your deposit transfers to a rescheduled appointment, no questions asked.
Less than 48 hours: Deposit is forfeited. A new deposit is required to rebook.
No-shows: Full service amount is charged and future booking requires prepayment in full.
Please arrive on time. Out of respect for every client in my schedule, I can only accommodate a 15-minute grace period.
Arrivals more than 15 minutes late may result in a shortened service or rescheduled appointment at my discretion. Deposit will not be refunded for late arrivals requiring rescheduling.
If you're running late, please message me — communication goes a long way.
All new clients are strongly encouraged to book a Hair & Lifestyle Consultation before their first service. This 45–60 minute session assesses your hair, your environment, and your goals.
For microloc and NC microloc services, a consultation is required before any install can be booked. No exceptions — this protects your hair and your investment.
Knotty Opulence is designed as a calm, focused experience. Please limit additional guests to those who are part of your appointment.
Children receiving services are welcome. Children accompanying adults are welcome if they can be supervised quietly. The studio is small and intimate — I want the experience to be peaceful for everyone.
